🧒💉 Why Timely Childhood Vaccination Matters for Our Community

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect our children and the people we care about from serious, preventable diseases. In New South Wales, timely childhood immunisation isn’t just recommended — it’s essential for keeping families, schools and communities safe. NSW Health+1

🌟 What “On Time” Really Means

The NSW Immunisation Schedule recommends vaccines at key ages — including 6 weeks, 4 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 4 years — because this is when children are most at risk. NSW Health Vaccines are carefully timed so that a child’s immune system is ready to build defence before they encounter these diseases in the community.

🛡️ Protecting Your Child

Vaccines protect children from serious illnesses like:

  • Whooping cough (pertussis)

  • Measles, mumps and rubella

  • Meningococcal disease

  • Polio, diphtheria and tetanusAll of these can lead to severe complications — and some can be fatal. Health, Disability & Ageing Australia+1

Recent health alerts show outbreaks of preventable diseases like measles are on the rise in Australia, especially where vaccination coverage dips below the levels needed for community immunity. The Guardian

🤝 Protecting Our Community

When your child is vaccinated on schedule:

  • You are helping to protect babies too young to be fully vaccinated

  • You reduce the spread of disease in childcare, schools and playgroups

  • You help maintain community (herd) immunity, which keeps everyone safer NSW Health

✨ What Happens If a Vaccine Is Missed?

If a child falls behind, it’s important to talk to your GP or nurse about a catch-up vaccination plan. The aim is to bring children up-to-date as safely and quickly as possible. The Australian Immunisation Handbook
